Charles Finney Cox (1846-1912) was one of the incorporators of the New York Botanical Garden as named in its 1891 charter granted by the New York State Legislature. An active advocate for the establishment of the Garden, he was appointed a member of the Board of Managers and served as Treasurer from 1899 until his death in 1912. His father, Robert Waring Darwin (1766-1848), was a physician, the son of Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802), a poet, philosopher, and naturalist.
